Reed Announces 2017 Congressional Art Competition Winners
Congressman Tom Reed announced the winner of the 2017 Congressional High School Art Competition, Jonna Marie Grigelevich. Ms. Grigelevich is a Junior at Brocton Middle High School, and crafted the watercolor piece “Buoyancy.”
“Enhancing participation and continuing the competition is something we care about preserving for future generations. I know our judges made a fair decision in this process and I’m proud to have Jonna’s artwork featured in Washington,” said Reed.
Jonna and her parents will be invited to travel to Washington, D.C. for a reception on June 29th with all winners of the Congressional Art Competition.
Ms. Grigelevich’s artwork will be on display in the United States Capitol for one year.
Each year, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage talent. Students submit their entries to their individual Representative’s office, where a panel of local artists then selects the winners. The competition was judged locally by Elmira College art professors and art students.
“We had an impressive number of entries this year and we saw some of the tremendous talents of the young artists from our area. Our congratulations to all of the winners, and thanks to every participant, who made this year’s competition a success,” Reed added.
