Reed Announces Grant for Dunkirk Fire Department
DUNKIRK, NY- Congressman Tom Reed announced that the Dunkirk Fire Department has been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program operations and safety grant for $27,060.
“Our local fire departments having the funds necessary to operate safely and efficiently makes our whole community safer, and this grant will help the Dunkirk Fire Department to better serve our friends and neighbors,” Reed said.
“The funding of this project will allow our department to properly clean and dry protective clothing thus reducing the occupational hazards associated with contamination of protective clothing. The City of Dunkirk Fire Department takes great concern with the health and safety of our firefighters. This funding will assist us with maintaining that goal,” said Michael D. Edwards Jr., Fire Chief of the Dunkirk Fire Department.
The AFG Program is one component in a coordinated effort to strengthen the Nation’s level of preparedness and ability to respond to fire and related hazards. The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administers the grant program.
