Reed Cares about ImpoverishedTom Reed continued to fight for working families by supporting passage of the bipartisan, Evidence-Based Policymaking Commission Act. “We care about those who are in poverty, which is why we continue to work with groups across our district to aid those that are struggling,” said Reed. “It’s only right that we study the government programs meant to help those in need to make sure they are managed efficiently and effectively. Ultimately, we have to work together to break the cycle of poverty and this bill is a great first step.” The bipartisan bill will establish a Commission on Evidence-Based Policymaking that will review data collected by federal agencies and recommend ways to use the data more effectively. It would also allow for the identification of duplicative programs, and determine the effectiveness of existing programs based on outcomes, not just spending. The bill first passed the House on July 27, 2015 but only recently cleared the Senate on March 16, 2016. Final House passage on March 17, 2016 cleared the way for the President to sign it into law. |
