Tom Reed is leading a bipartisan effort to enhance job creation and encourage U.S. energy security. “We care about ensuring that we can produce the reliable, clean and affordable energy that our nation needs right here at home. By implementing common sense policies like this one, we can ensure that we can do just that,” said Reed. “Encouraging this kind of development creates the quality, family sustaining jobs that families throughout our country deserve and helps meet the energy demands of today and tomorrow. It’s a win-win.”

The bipartisan bill would extend tax provisions that make it easier for companies to develop energy technologies, such as fuel cells, combined heat and power systems and wind turbines.

“The investment tax credit (ITC) is one of the most effective ways to encourage the deployment of renewable energy in the United States,” said, Rep. Mike Thompson of California, the bipartisan cosponsor of the bill.  “I look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues in Congress, on both sides of the aisle, to ensure that more folks across our country can utilize the ITC for renewable energy.”

The tax provisions are set to expire at the end of the year if the bill does not pass. However, many energy development projects require years of planning and the bill would create the certainty they need to plan and advance their project.

The proposal comes as Reed proposed an all-of-the-above approach to energy security, late last year. The plan is designed to implement and support policies that would end American dependence on Middle Eastern crude oil. The plan can be found on Reed’s website, www.Reed.House.gov.
