Tom Reed was joined by Jairam Hathwar, 2016 Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington to celebrate his victory. “We care about recognizing the accomplishments of the young people across our district.  We are incredibly proud of Jairam and celebrate his commitment to learning and his efforts to reach his fullest potential. It’s only right to honor his achievement and wish him the best of luck in the future,” said Reed.

Hathwar met with various officials throughout the day in D.C., including Reed, who presented him with a Congressional statement for the record to commemorate his win.

Hathwar and his family were invited to Washington to attend a joint session of Congress, during which Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the joint session and even recognized Hathwar’s achievement.

In 2016, each co-champion will receive a trophy and $40,000 in cash and prizes.
