Tom Reed announces the Trumansburg Fire Department will be awarded a federal grant through the Department of Homeland Security in cooperation with the US Fire Administration and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. “As a community, we care about demonstrating our appreciation by recognizing the men and women who are committed to keeping us safe,” said Reed. “These individuals devote hours of hard work to protect us and it is only right we give them the resources they need to do their jobs.”

The Trumansburg Fire Department will receive a $224,400 grant which will be used to purchase new self contained breathing apparatuses and replace old units. This will allow the department to update their units to ones that are up to current NFPA standards.

“As the Fire Chief of the Trumansburg Fire Department I would like to say thank you to Tom Reed and his staff for their efforts and to the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Committee for awarding us our Regional grant with the Ovid Fire Department,” said Trumansburg Fire Chief Jason Fulton. “These funds of $224,400.00 will give us the opportunity to purchase new self contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) for both departments to replace old, broken, and out dated units that are not up to the current NFPA standards. The new SCBA will allow us to meet the current NFPA standards and will serve both of our communities for years to come.”

“I consider it a blessing to our department because we have a limited budget. We would have never been able to replace these air packs without the FEMA grant. It’s going to be a good thing for both us and Trumansburg,” said Bill Palmer, Fire Chief at the Ovid Fire Department.
