Tom Reed announced that the Town of Westfield will receive an additional $210,000 in federal funding to rebuild the collapsed section of the Barcelona Harbor’s breakwall before the end of the year. “We care about making sure that we meet the needs of a local economy that relies on the harbor. Investing in our infrastructure is a great way to bring and keep quality, family sustaining jobs in our region, which is why I’m proud to support these efforts and work with local community leaders on this project. It’s only right that we help make this project a reality and we are glad to see it get across the finish line.”
The funding is in addition to funding disbursed early this year and aims to ensure the completion of the repairs prior to winter season without interrupting the summer tourism season.
"We are thrilled to hear the project is moving forward as planned. We truly appreciate Congressman Reed and his staff working with us to expedite the Barcelona Breakwall repair," said Martha Bills, Westfield Town Supervisor.
The breakwall has been closed since November 2015 due to safety concerns following a damaging storm in late October.
