Reed Announces Grant for East Corning Fire Department
CORNING, NY- Congressman Tom Reed announced that East Corning Fire Department, Inc. has been awarded a Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response (SAFER) grant for $159,691 by the Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program (AFG).
“Ensuring that our local fire departments have the funds necessary to recruit and retain quality staff makes our whole community safer. This is grant will help the East Corning Fire Department better serve our friends and neighbors,” Reed said.
When notified of the award, East Corning Fire Department President Dave Shafer commented, “we are truly appreciative of the support our grant application received from Congressman Reed and other community leaders and we look forward to starting work on program initiatives that will improve the quality and efficiency of volunteer fire services for our community residents!”
The SAFER program provides funding to improve fire departments’ ability to attain and maintain 24-hour fire department staffing and to assure that communities have adequate protection from fire-related hazards. The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administers the grant program in cooperation with the U.S. Fire Administration.
