Reed Announces Grant for Limestone Volunteer Fire Department
LIMESTONE, NY- Congressman Tom Reed announced that the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department has been awarded an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program operations and safety grant for $12,858.
“I believe it is vital that we make sure our local fire departments have the funds necessary to operate with safety and efficiency and I was happy to provide a letter in support of the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department receiving this grant,” Reed said.
“We appreciate that the FEMA Grants are still ongoing, without them small departments like ours, with small tax bases couldn't afford the equipment that we apply for. Like many departments we have an aging membership and equipment like this electric stretcher will help our volunteers load and unload our patients. I would also like to thank Congressman Reed for his continued support,” said Michael Soper, Fire Chief at the Limestone Volunteer Fire Department.
The AFG Program is one component in a coordinated effort to strengthen the Nation’s level of preparedness and ability to respond to fire and related hazards. The Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) administers the grant program.
