Reed Announces Grant for Alfred State College Biorefinery Program
Congressman Tom Reed announced the approval of an $1.5 million Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC) grant to Alfred State College for the Biorefinery Development and Commercialization Center (BDCC) project. The project will help private and public partners leverage natural resources to create sustainable businesses using advanced manufacturing processes.
“The ARC funding for the BDCC project will assure that Alfred State will lead in the biorefining development and training in the region. The grant funds equipment in the BDCC, training in the region and development of a BDCC network through University partners across the ARC region.”
The grant will help to diversify the local economy that has been impacted due to the reduction in the use of coal for energy. More information on ARC’s coal impacted communities can be found here.
