The State of our Union is Strong
Last week, President Trump spoke to the nation during his first State of Union address. From his message, it is clear that the state of our union is strong. Wages are rising, job growth is up, and unemployment is at its lowest since 2000! Also, the tax reform package is working, as business continue to announce bonuses and wage increases and people are beginning to see more in their paychecks.
After the State of the Union address, I sat down with Problem Solvers Caucus co-chair, Rep. Josh Gottheimer, to give a bipartisan response. As the president mentioned, we need to come together to govern for the American people. This is the only way we will solve the immigration issue, rebuild our infrastructure, and secure our borders. Watch our response here.
In addition to addressing the work of congress each year, the State of the Union is an opportunity to highlight other important issues facing our communities. I was honored to host Tiffany Folk as our guest to the State of the Union. Tiffany and her husband Christopher recently lost their son, Tristan, to suicide. Tristan was a kind, sincere, and intelligent young man with a promising future whose life was tragically cut short. I hope to bring awareness to suicide prevention and honor Tristan’s memory by advocating for this issue in DC. I encourage you to read Tristan’s story.
I always enjoy communicating the importance of civic engagement and teaching younger generations about the legislative process. Recently, a senior from Dundee High School, William Hall, contacted my office asking me to speak to his government class. I made a surprise visit to the school on Friday. Watch the highlights of our visit here. Thanks again to William for reaching out, and I hope you got the 100 percent!
As always, please stay in touch and share your thoughts by contacting any of our offices.
