Today, Rep. Tom Reed highlighted his work in Washington, D.C. to protect our environment for future generations.
“We care about ensuring our children and grandchildren have fair shot at living in a clean and vibrant environment,” Tom said. “From fighting to guarantee a 900 percent increase from the President’s proposed budget for the Great Lakes Restoration initiative, to promoting clean energy tax credits and my membership of the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus this is an issue no one can deny we take very seriously.”
Tom recognizes the importance of keeping our waterways, which are vital to our economy and quality of life, clean and safe.
The Great Lakes Restoration Initiative cares for our environmental cleanup efforts such as cleaning waterways, preventing and controlling invasive species, and reducing harmful algal bloom in the region. Tom ensured a 900% increase in funding for the Great Lakes Restoration initiative from the President’s proposed budget – an increase from $30 million to $300 million.
Earlier this year Tom fought to see energy tax credits for fiber-optic solar energy, fuel cells, combined heat and power systems, solar and thermal energy. Tom believes by incentivizing emerging technologies through our tax code, alternative and renewable energy companies can compete to become the leader in clean, cheap energy technology.
Tom is a proud supporter of an all of the above energy tax policy which works to:
- Create certainty for energy investors and developers.
- Secure America’s dominance in energy technology.
- Lock in the energy jobs of the future now for hard working Americans.
Tom plans to introduce a bill in the near future to create a new, forward thinking, and all-encompassing energy tax policy which doesn’t pick winners and losers, promotes innovation, and ensures a tax credits phase out so market forces are allowed to take over.
Tom is an adamant critic of the Romulus incinerator project in the Finger Lakes.
Tom is a member of the bipartisan Climate Solutions Caucus which serves as an organization to educate members on economically-viable options to reduce climate risk and protect our nation’s economy, security, infrastructure, agriculture, water supply and public safety.
