Reed Announces Affordable Housing Grants for Elmira
Today, Rep. Tom Reed announced two grants worth $1,580,691 from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to provide Elmira with funding to develop affordable housing.
“We care about ensuring our friends and neighbors have fair access to quality housing,” Tom said. “This grant enables our communities to develop affordable housing and boosts jobs.”
“CDBG and HOME grants are a vital part in improving neighborhoods and homes throughout our city,” Mayor of the City of Elmira, Dan Mandell said. “Congressman Tom Reed has been and is instrumental in making sure that these funds are available to our citizens. Many thanks go out to Congressman Reed for his support to our city.”
The Community Development Block (CDBG) Grants program provides annual grants to States and local units of government to develop viable urban communities by providing housing and a suitable living environment, and by expanding economic opportunities, principally for low- and moderate-income people. Tom is a proud supporter of CDBG and recently toured CDBG projects with the HUD Region II Administrator Lynn Patton. The HOME program helps to expand the supply of decent, affordable housing to low- and very low-income families by providing grants to States and local governments to fund housing programs that meet local needs and priorities.
