Tom Reed met with leaders in the veterans’ community from around the region to gather feedback on his proposal to help reform the Veterans Administration and help meet the specialized needs of our heroes. “As the son of a career Army officer, who worked his way up through the enlisted ranks, we care about creating the best opportunities for our veterans and their families as they transition back to civilian life.  After sacrificing so much for us, we its only right that we continue to stand with them after their service and keep the promises made to them.”

Reed was hosted by the Vietnam Veterans of American in Jamestown for a roundtable discussion about the plan and listened to feedback from area veterans about the unique challenges they face. He was joined by local leadership from the Vietnam Veterans of America, American Legion in Jamestown, American Legion in Falconer, American Legion in Casadaga and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Attendee, Dennis Wolfe, a Vietnam veteran from Elmira had this to say about the event, “As a combat Vietnam Veteran, I have nothing but the highest regard for Tom Reed and his office. Anytime we’ve needed help for a veteran or assistance with the operations of the Veterans Administration, Congressman Reed and his staff have always been there,” said Dennis Wolfe, a Vietnam veteran from Elmira.

The plan outlines ways to solve the difficulties that many veterans face when transitioning back into civilian life after active duty. It also protects military families from bureaucratic loopholes that eliminate benefits they deserve. Finally, the plan puts an emphasis reforming the Veterans Administration to ensure it is providing accessible, quality healthcare to Veterans close to home, notably care for the ever growing population of female veterans.

“As Chautauqua County Executive, I am so proud of Tom Reed's firm commitment to the health and welfare of my fellow veterans. As the Son of a veteran he learned early on that our country owes much to those who defend our freedoms,” said Vince Horrigan, Chautauqua County Executive and Retired Air Force Colonel.

“As the mother of a military member, I appreciate all Congressman Reed does for our veterans. He has always searched for ways to assist area veterans, and today's announcement is just proof of his commitment to them.  I want to thank Congressman Reed for his continued support for our veterans and their families,” said Susan Rowley, President of the Blue Star Mothers, NY Chapter 4.
