Where is the common sense?

Dear Neighbor,

Once again, Governor Cuomo is putting his extreme agenda ahead of YOU – the hard working people of New York.

To close prisons and bring back a proposal for heroin injection sites is not good public policy for our friends and neighbors in the Southern Tier, Finger Lakes, and Western New York.

Why would anyone believe that was a good idea?

These two policies combined will cause conditions that would increase homelessness, violence and crime and pull dangerous drug dealers into our backyards.

Legalizing open injection sites is not the solution to our nation’s heroin problem.

To help combat the opioid epidemic, we have supported:

  • The 21st Century Cures Act, which was signed into law December 2016, established $1 billion over two years for grants to states to supplement opioid abuse prevention and treatment activities.
  • The HELP Act, which we introduced, will allow federal prosecutors access more severe penalties, including life in prison or the death penalty when prosecuting certain criminal drug cases.

Our backyard’s should not become a drug pusher’s paradise.

Until next time,

Tom
