Today, Rep. Tom Reed announced a $16,761.90 grant to provide Citizens Hose Company and Shortsville Fire Department with funding to enrich fire prevention and safety program. The grant will be used to provide fire and carbon monoxide detectors to vulnerable populations and creating a marketing campaign about fire safety.

“We care about ensuring the safety of constituents from the dangers of fires and carbon monoxide,” Tom said. “This grant provides funding to help keep our constituents safe and informed. We will continue to support our first responders and these important initiatives going forward.”

“The AFG FPS grant will be used to purchase more than 600 smoke alarms and CO detectors, targeted at low income families and elderly residents,” said Chief Jason Wagner of Citizen Hose Company and Shortsville Fire Department. “We will also enact a marketing campaign promoting escape plans, home fire extinguishers and sleeping with bedroom doors closed, the ‘Close Before you Dose’ concept.”

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program of the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency is meant to bolster and support the nation’s preparedness and response to fire and other hazards. The program has provided $7.1 billion since 2001.
