Rep. Tom Reed visited the new Jamestown Public Schools Success Academy, an alternative school to help students succeed in an academic setting. Students are voluntarily involved in the academy and the school provides a less hectic atmosphere than other school settings.

During the visit, Tom toured the facility, met with students and visited with staff. He also met with building administrators and Superintendent Bret Apthorpe for a short presentation on the mission of the academy and the data behind it.

“Seeing these agencies come together with the school district to help our most vulnerable student population is inspiring,” said Tom. “The Success Academy is a shining example of what can be done when people come together to help solve the issues we as a community care about. My hat is off to the staff, teachers and students for their efforts.”

“The life blood of the success academy is the collaboration of our educators and our community youth agencies that support children,” said Dr. Bret Apthorpe, Jamestown Public Schools superintendent. “Congressman Reed has been a big supporter of that. Getting collaboration and having professionals who know how to help kids together with educators is a great recipe for success.”

The Success Academy opened its doors in September and offers students in need of a different educational setting and access to the many organizations housed there a chance to learn and thrive in the welcoming environment. The academy offers smaller class sizes, hands-learning and therapeutic programing. For more information, visit www.jpsny.org.
