As the father of a type 1 diabetic, I care about lowering the cost of insulin. No one should go deep into debt to afford their insulin. We have seen far too many stories of people rationing their insulin, driving across the border to Canada to get it or going without because of the high cost.
I was proud to introduce a bipartisan, common sense bill, the Insulin Price Reduction Act, with my colleague Dianna DeGette to slash the price of this crucial drug many Americans rely on to get through the day by 75 percent. This legislation would give the nation’s three makers of insulin an optional incentive to lower the current list price of their insulin products from $300 a vial to $68 a vial, which is what it was listed for sale at in 2006.
No one should have to choose between affording their groceries and paying for their insulin. This legislation will help.
