REED ANNOUNCES 2020 CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION WINNERWASHINGTON – Today, Rep. Tom Reed announced the winner of the 2020 Congressional High School Art Competition is Kyla James. Ms. James, a freshman at Romulus High School, created the drawing “Bjork” in colored pencils. “We care about the importance of arts for students, and this is just one way we encourage their creativity and imaginations,” said Tom. “Kyla is a very talented artist and we were glad she participated in this event this year." Kyla’s artwork will be on display in the United States Capitol for one year in the Cannon Tunnel. Each year, the Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school visual art competition to recognize and encourage talent. Students submit their entries to their individual Representative’s office, where a panel of local artists then select the overall winner. The competition was judged locally by Elmira College art professors, Jan Kather, Aaron Kather and Chris Longwell. The finalists' art work will be displayed in Tom’s office in Washington, D.C. “We saw some of the tremendous talent of the young artists from our district,” Tom added. “We appreciate everyone participating in the event, despite the COVID-19 crisis.” For additional information on the contest, please visit www.Reed.House.gov. |
