Statement from Tom Reed on President Obama's Speech

“Similar to the State of the Union speech, the President’s speech today was nearly an hour of rhetoric without any real solutions, and no plan to reduce the deficit except for raising taxes. It was a very political speech without much policy. I was glad to hear him mention the need to reform entitlement programs and cut spending, but disappointed that he offered no suggestions on how to do so.
I agree that we cannot keep kicking the can down the road on these issues – I have been saying as much since I entered the Congressional race almost two years ago – but the President offered no real solution for dealing with the debt levels we have run up on our national credit card.
We owe it to our children and grandchildren to get our deficit and spending under control. I look forward to the debate on my colleague Paul Ryan’s Path to Prosperity budget plan, which contains real solutions. We have to do what is right without worrying about politics.”
