Reed Announces Assistance to Firefighters in Allegany and Cattaraugus Counties
Tom Reed announced firefighter grant awards in Allegany and Cattaraugus counties to help those communities upgrade and improve their emergency response teams and equipment. The Village of Delevan will receive $101,764 and the William P. Brooks Hose Company in Fillmore will receive $74,682 in Assistance to Firefighter Grant (AFG) awards.
“Caring for public safety, especially in our smaller, more rural communities is always a main concern and we’re pleased to help our first responders get additional assistance,” Reed said. “We hear from firefighters at our first responder roundtables about their unique equipment and personnel needs and how we can help them enhance their capabilities. The better we understand those needs, the better we are able to get firefighters the help they fairly deserve.”
Reed held a workshop in the district last summer to help local fire departments and EMS organizations navigate and complete the grant application process, and identify and utilize the resources available to them. The workshop was held in conjunction with the Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) program.
The AFG program helps firefighters and other first responders obtain critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training, and other resources necessary to protect the public and emergency personnel from fire and related hazards.
