Reed Receives Diabetes Champion Award
Tom Reed received the 2014 “Diabetes Champion” Award for his efforts supporting diabetes education, research and care from Novo Nordisk, a global leader in diabetes care. The award is presented annually to major advocates for diabetes awareness.
“We need to fight every single day to find a cure,” Reed said. “As my son lives each day with the disease, diabetes is very personal to our family and I understand firsthand what families living with diabetes experience on a daily basis. We need to do everything we can at the local, state and national level to care for these families and find a cure for this costly disease. We’re proud to partner with the diabetes community to increase awareness. Together, we can help these children and adults live more normal lives.”
As Vice Chair of the Congressional Diabetes Caucus, Reed has sponsored major diabetes initiatives, including his work to extend the Special Diabetes Program. Reed advocates for diabetes research and education and participates regularly in diabetes awareness events with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and the American Diabetes Association.
