Reed Supports Opportunities for Disabled Youth and Their Families

House of Representatives voted 404-17 to pass the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act of 2014

Rep. Tom Reed today supported the Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act of 2014, a bill which will provide a new type of savings account to help disabled individuals save for education, housing, transportation and employment training among other health and wellness related expenses.

“The ABLE Act is a common sense bill which properly cares for individuals with disabilities and assists their efforts towards achieving their own quality of life goals” Reed said following the bill’s passage Wednesday evening.

The ABLE Act gained broad bipartisan support in the House of Representatives totaling 380 cosponsors before passage. On November 11, 2014 the ABLE Act was reported out of the Ways and Means Committee, where Reed serves.

“I was pleased that we were able to work on this important legislation to set up fair opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Today’s passage of the ABLE Act is an example of how we can come together, with broad support, to help Americans achieve their goals”

A similar bill is introduced in the Senate where it is supported by 75 Senators
