Tom Reed in Hornell to Honor Howard Flats Farm on 200th Anniversary
Tom Reed recognized Howard Flats Farm today with a statement commemorating the farm’s 200th anniversary in the House of Representatives. Currently under the ownership of Phil Bennett and his wife Juanita and managed by their son Jay Bennett, Howard Flats Farm is one of the longest continuously run family farms in New York State. The longstanding farm has been in the Bennett family for five generations.
“It is the dedication of family farms like Howard Flats that keeps our region among the top in the nation for quality agriculture and products,” Reed said. “This exceptional family continues to make substantial contributions to our state’s economy and the Hornell community as a whole. I am honored to commemorate the Bennett family on the milestone of their farm’s 200th anniversary and their commitment to the livelihood of agriculture here in New York.”
The operation at the Howard Flats Farm includes 700 acres and is home to an average milking herd of 150 cows. The farm property also includes a log home and nearby camping site that is rented as lodging during hunting season and throughout the year for recreational activities.
Howard Flats Farm has been run under the ownership of Daniel N. Bennett, George Bennett, Bert Bennett, Byron Bennett and now Phil Bennett.
